Meet Dr. Frank Ogbonna
Dr. Frank has been involved in helping professionals for over three decades, starting in West Africa and continuing in the United States. He has worked with special populations in group homes across different states and served as a clinical coordinator for children in foster homes, where he performed cognitive behavior therapy twice weekly. Dr. Frank has worked with incarcerated populations for over 14 years and is currently employed in an outpatient clinic. He has experience with clients facing various concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, interpersonal issues, trauma, relationship problems, communication among couples, low self-esteem, life transition issues, grief and loss, sex offenses, and suicidal ideation/self-harm.
Dr. Frank has had many successful encounters with adolescents, young adults, and older adults in various settings, including at home, in prison, outpatient clinics, and schools. Due to his compassionate and goal-oriented approach to therapy, his clients appreciate his positive regard and person-centered philosophy from the initial session.
Dr. Frank holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Education, a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, a Master’s degree in Public Health, and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology. He is a certified counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NCC), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor by Texas Health and Human Services, and a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider by the Council of Sex Offender Treatment (CSOT) of Texas Health and Human Services.
In pursuit of his client’s goals in therapy, Dr. Frank understands that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach. He diversifies his methods according to the life situations of his clients, utilizing cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, internal family systems (IFS), positive psychology, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. Recognizing that everyone carries a “life backpack” of personal history and experiences, Dr. Frank believes it’s possible to find triggers for current situations within both the individual’s past and present. Therefore, he deeply explores these aspects using psychoanalysis and CBT to find solutions to present issues. Dr. Frank believes that people are the actors in the movies of their lives, and he uses a person-centered philosophy of positive regard in the journey toward therapeutic goals. Lastly, due to Dr. Frank’s exposure to multicultural settings, he creates a culturally sensitive environment that enables his clients to express themselves freely.
